Matches we Shoot
Our club shoots a wide variety of events, including Pistol Australia sanctioned events.

Air Pistol (ISSF)
One of the two pistol events shot at the olympics - made famous by Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish silver medal winner in the Paris '24 olympics. Air pistol is great to hone your skills and focus on the core of pistol shooting.

.22 Rim Fire (ISSF) and 25m Centrefire
22 events use semi-automatic 5 shot pistols. Rapid Fire, where 5 targets are shot at in 4 seconds, is shot at the Olympics. Other events include 50m, 25m Standard, 25m Sport, and 25m Centre-Fire for revolvers and semi-automatic .32 and .38 pistols.

Service Pistol
Service pistol is an Australian match shot from 7 to 50 yards, using a holster and .38/.357 or 9mm revolvers or semi-auto pistols. The unrestricted match doesn't require a holster and allows .32 calibres, and there's also a 25 yard match shot at shorter distances.

WA 1500
WA 1500 is an international holster event, shot as either a 150-shot or 48-shot match. This event can allow for a variety of modifications, and in Australia can be shot with revolvers with a barred as short as 4".

Black Powder
Using a revolver design from the 1800s and hand-made cartridges with percussion caps, Black Powder is a challenging and rewarding event. On a still day half the challenge is seeing the target through the smoke!
Smallbore Rifle
Our club rooms also host the Mildura Smallbore Rifle Club. If you're interested in smallbore rifle shooting please get in touch so we can pass your details along.

Any junior person over 12 years old who has not been deemed by the court to be a prohibited person. However consent by a parent or guardian must be given. A junior person is not able to own or purchase handguns until they are 18 years old.
Procedure for trying and joining
The current firearms legislation provides for a series of processes to be followed. Whilst these may seem onerous, they are basically straight forward for any person serious about taking up the sport.
Notification of Receiving Instruction (NORI)
An adult person interested in joining an Approved Handgun Shooting Club is allowed to “try” the sport 13 times before needing a licence to continue. On each occasion they must complete a form which the club then submits to the Victoria Police. A Drivers Licence and Medicare card also needs to be shown.

Apply for a Provisional Licence (optional)
After joining an approved handgun target shooting club, the new member cannot apply for a general category hangun licence until they have been a member for a continuous period of 6 months and have also participated in at least 5 approved handgun shooting matches during this period. The provisional general category handgun licence, issued for a minimum period of 6 months and maximum period of 12 months (and is not renewable), allows a new member to carry and use firearms at a club until they receive a general handgun licence. This licence also lets you purchase ammunition and, means you don't need to complete NORIs.
